Amanda Bynes was recently arrested in New York City after allegedly throwing a bong out of a window of an apartment building in front of police.

Police said in a report obtained by OTRC.com that on Thursday, May 23, they received a 911 call from an employee there, who reported that the 27-year-old former Nickelodeon star and "Hairspray" actress was in the lobby, rolling a joint and lighting it. The person said it smelled like pot.

Police arrived and smelled "the odor of marijuana emanating" from Bynes' apartment. An officer wrote in the report that Bynes opened the door and that he then saw a bong on her kitchen counter.

"When I asked [Bynes] about said bong, and while wearing [a] full police uniform, I observed [Bynes] grab said bong, run to the westbound-facing window and throw it out the window where numerous pedestrians were walking," the report quoted the cop as saying. "I did not recover anything from said sidewalks.

Bynes was arrested on suspicion of reckless endangerment, tampering with evidence and criminal possession of marijuana.

Amanda Bynes was released on her own recognizance and arraigned on Friday. She is due back in court on July 9. The actress was swarmed by paparazzi as she entered a yellow taxi cab, covering her face. Watch a video below, courtesy of TMZ.

Bynes moved to New York several months ago from her home state of California, where possession of certain quantities of marijuana is legal if used for medicinal purposes, and has since become one of the most popular celebrities on Twitter due to her frequent postings of "selfie" photos, which show a dramatic image transformation.

The actress got into legal trouble in Los Angeles in 2012, when she was charged with driving with a suspended license. She pleaded no contest and was put on probation for three years. She also has a DUI case that is pending.
