Alex Trebek on heart attack: My wife made me get checked out
Alex Trebek may have his wife to thank for saving his life.
The "Jeopardy!" host revealed to People magazine in a recent interview that it was his wife, Jean Currivan Trebek, who made him get medical attention prior to his minor heart attack.
"I had been doing some work around the house working with a heavy ladder," he told the magazine about the days before his heart attack. "I just thought it was muscle strain."
"She was very adamant and had tears in her eyes," he added. "I didn't want to upset her more than I had already so I went -- and she was right."
The 71-year-old host of popular game show was taken to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center on June 23 following the incident and underwent medical tests. He was released from the hospital on June 27 and is expected to make a full recovery in time to film the new season of "Jeopardy!" in July.
Trebek told People that he is eager to get back to his hosting gig and even joked about making headlines for the incident.
"It's just an attempt to get attention ... [It had] almost as big an effect as when I shaved my mustache 12 years ago."
Trebek has hosted the syndicated game show since 1984. At the Daytime Emmys on June 23, "Jeopardy!" won Outstanding Game/Audience Participation Show. In May, the show was honored with a Peabody Award.
