Alec Baldwin is returning to television with a talk show.

Months after "30 Rock" ended its run with a series finale on Jan. 31, it was announced on Thursday, Sept. 5, that the actor will host a weekly current events and culture talk show called "Up Late w/ Alec Baldwin" on MSNBC.

The hour-long show will air on Fridays at 10 p.m. ET starting in October. A premiere date has not yet been announced.

"After two seasons of my WNYC podcast, I've developed a fondness for hosting a show that involved talking with smart, talented and engaging people in every imaginable field," Baldwin said in a statement. "I'm grateful to MSNBC for helping me bring a similar show to television."

"I've been talking with Alec for a while and can't wait to bring his personality and eclectic interests to MSNBC," said MSNBC president Phil Griffin. "He's got such passion for ideas and what's going on in the world - he's going to be a great addition to our line-up."

Baldwin has hosted the WNYC podcast "Here's the Thing" since 2011. He's interviewed a variety of guests from the entertainment and political worlds including NBC anchor Brian Williams, Kris Jenner, Lena Dunham and Republican political strategist Ed Rollins.

The 55-year-old actor has hosted the most episodes of "Saturday Night Live" with 16 episodes. Steve Martin is second with 15 episodes. Martin and Baldwin co-hosted the 82nd Annual Academy Awards together in 2010.

The actor and his wife, Hilaria, welcomed a baby girl named Carmen Gabriela in late August. The baby is the second child for the actor, who shares a 17-year-old daughter, Ireland, with ex-wife Kim Basinger.
