Adele recorded theme song for new James Bond film 'Skyfall' - Listen
Adele has confirmed that she recently recorded the theme song for the upcoming James Bond film "Skyfall."
"I was a little hesitant at first to be involved with the theme song for 'Skyfall,'" Adele said in a statement on the film's official website. "There's a lot of instant spotlight and pressure when it comes to a Bond song. But I fell in love with the script and Paul had some great ideas for the track and it ended up being a bit of a no brainer to do it in the end."
Adele shared a photo of the music's cover sheet on Twitter on October 1, which listed the composers as being Adele, A. Adkins and P. Epworth, who co-wrote and produced Adele's hit single, "Rolling In The Deep."
The theme was recorded at the legendary Abbey Road Studios in London, with the help of a 77-piece orchestra.
"It was also a lot of fun writing to a brief, something I've never done which made it exciting," the singer continued. "When we recorded the strings, it was one of the proudest moments of my life. I'll be back combing my hair when I'm 60 telling people I was a Bond girl back in the day I'm sure."
The British singer wrote on her official Twitter page that the song would debut at 0.07 BST on Friday October 5, which marks the 50th anniversary of the release of the first Bond film, "Dr. No" and is officially known as Global James Bond Day.
Past James Bond themes have been performed by Tom Jones, Nancy Sinatra, Paul McCartney, Carly Simon, Duran Duran, Gladys Knight, Tina Turner, Sheryl Crow, Garbage, Madonna, Chris Cornell and most recently, Jack White and Alicia Keys.
The release will be Adele's first since her hugely successful 2011 album, "21." She is currently expecting her first child with boyfriend Simon Konecki.
The 24-year-old singer has won eight Grammys since 2008, when she was named Best New Artist, and is known for hit singles such as "Rolling In the Deep" and "Someone Like You." The songs are from her second studio album, "21," an autobiographical record that had a breakup theme inspired by her own love life.
Adele first met Konecki, 36, in the summer of 2011. He co-founded the UK-based bottled water company Life Water and also heads its charity, Drop4Drop, which brings clean water to developing countries.
Adele has been on a break from recording music since she underwent vocal cord microsurgery in November 2011.
A new trailer for "Skyfall," the 23rd film in the James Bond franchise, which debuted online on July 31, showed Daniel Craig's Bond coming back from the dead and a blond Javier Bardem as the film's villain, Silva.
"Skyfall" is directed by Oscar-winning director Sam Mendes. Filming took place in Turkey as well as Scotland, England and Shanghai, China. It is the third franchise film for Craig, who played James Bond in the films "Casino Royale" and "Quantum of Solace."
The new Bond film is set for release on November 9. Watch the trailer and a preview of Adele's "Skyfall" theme below.
