Adam Shankman checks into rehab - confirmed
Adam Shankman, who has directed hit films like "The Wedding Planner" and the 2007 musical film "Hairspray," has checked into rehab.
A spokesperson for the 49-year-old director confirmed the news to OTRC.com on Dec. 9. The news was first reported in Us Weekly.
Shankman, who is also a judge on "So You Think You Can Dance" and a choreographer, talked to OTRC.com correspondent Karl Schmid at the TrevorLIVE LA event on Dec. 8.
The event celebrated the 15th anniversary of The Trevor Project, a non-profit organization which provides services to prevent suicide among lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning youth.
"I was tortured as a kid and I got through it and there's actually -- through no fault of my parents -- there's a therapist who worked with me when I was very young and tried to deprogram me and really sort of messed with my self-esteem for what might be my entire life," he said when asked why it was important for him to be involved with The Trevor Project. "I think that I didn't deserve that and I think that no one deserves that."
