Adam Levine talks about Christina Aguilera's bullies: 'Grow up'
Adam Levine is ready to defend his fellow "Voice" coach Christina Aguilera from bullies who criticize her weight.
Levine spoke about fake fights he and some of the other coaches get into on the show and Aguilera during a press event for the show on Friday, October 26.
"The fights that everyone thought we were having were fictional," the 33-year-old Maroon 5 frontman said, according to People magazine. He and Aguilera have thrown a few snarky jabs at each other on the show and also collaborated together on the Maroon 5 single "Moves Like Jagger."
"We never hated each other," he added. "We never had these secret battles that everyone thought we were having."
When asked by reporters about Aguilera being criticized for her weight, Levine told reporters that the critics should "grow up."
"The one thing about the culture right now, celebrity culture particularly, is people feel like they can just say nasty things about other people whether it's Christina or whether it's me," he said. "She gets a lot and it pisses me off. Of course I have her back and of course I defend her."
Last week, Aguilera went on an expletive-filled rant about tabloids earlier this week as well as internet bullies when talking at the Billboard/Hollywood Reporter Film & TV Conference on October 25.
"I don't read blogs. It's just God-knows-who in [expletive] wherever writing hate [expletive]. You can't take it seriously," she said at the event, according to The Hollywood Reporter. "I'm sure you've all been hated on at some point by [expletive] people... It's real talk today."
Aguilera is gearing up to release her seventh studio album "Lotus" on November 9. The first single off the album, "Your Body," went on sale on September 17. The music video shows Aguilera rocking a lot of pink wigs, leopard print, corsets and micro-mini skirts, while meeting and murdering a slew of handsome male companions.
"I'm very confident in my body," Aguilera said during NBC's panel for "The Voice" at the Television Critics Association Winter Session in January. "I think my video works over the years have spoken to that... I've been no stranger to being very comfortable in my own skin."It was announced on September 17 that Aguilera and Green would be taking time off from"The Voice" in its upcoming fourth season in 2013, during which she plans to tour to promote her new record. Shakira and Usher will take the pair's spots, alongside Adam Levine and Blake Shelton. The third season of the reality singing competition premiered on September 10.
