Aaron Paul to star in 'Better Call Saul'? 'Breaking Bad' alum speaks
Will Aaron Paul reprise his role of Jesse Pinkman on the "Breaking Bad" spinoff show, "Better Call Saul"?
The new series was announced in September, just before "Breaking Bad" ended after five seasons. The hit AMC show starred Bryan Cranston as Walter White, a chemistry teacher, cancer patient, family man and meth cook, who teams up with Pinkman, a drug dealer, to create a massive distribution operation for his innovative product.
"Better Call Saul" is a prequel series that will focus on the pair's smarmy lawyer Saul Goodman, played by Bob Odenkirk, and is set to premiere in November.
"I'd better be in 'Better Call Saul," Paul told OTRC.com at the recent 2014 Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah. "I hope so. I've definitely thrown my name in the hat. That's what's so great about 'Better Call Saul' -- it's a prequel, so all the characters that had died in the past seasons can come back to life."
Paul had told Details magazine in an interview published in its February 2014 issue that both he and Cranston "want to be a part of" "Better Call Saul," adding: "If they'll have us."
Show creator Vince Gillegan told EW in December that "Breaking Bad" star Jonathan Banks, who played Mike, may appear in the spinoff and that 'Better Call Saul could be 'The Love Boat' of its generation, where instead of Milton Berle showing up in a sailor's cap, hopefully it could be Aaron Paul, also in a sailor's cap."
Paul can also be seen next in the movie "Hellion," a drama film that stars Juliette Lewis. It premiered at the Sundance Film Festival. He plays a dad.
"To play a father was quite different from anything I've ever done," he said.
Paul also stars in the upcoming British comedy "A Long Way Down" with Pierce Brosnan and the Walt Disney-distributed "Need for Speed," in which he plays a street racer.
Reporting by Rachel Smith, host of the nationally syndicated entertainment show "On The Red Carpet" (check for local TV listings). The series is produced by KABC Television near Los Angeles.
