'21 Jump Street' film in the works, may star Channing Tatum
The movie is also set to star comedic actor Jonah Hill and will begin production in spring of 2011, according to Deadline.com, which carried the report. The actors have not commented.Hill and Michael Bacall developed the story for the new 21 Jump Street film, which will be directed by Phil Lord and Chris Miller of Cloudy with the Chance of Meatballs, the website said. It is set to be released on March 16, 2012 and actresses Emma Stone and Julianne Hough of Dancing With the Stars are also said to have joined its cast, according to preliminary casting lists.
Tatum, 30, played Captain Duke Hauser in the recent G.I. Joe film and also starred in the movie Stop-Loss.
Depp, now a renowned film actor, starred on 21 Jump Street between 1987 and 1990 and hated being contractually bound to the series, but has said it helped make him a household name. Michael Bendetti was later cast in the lead role following Depp's departure.
The show also starred Holly Robinson Peete, who is now a co-host on The Talk, and Peter DeLuise and often depicted young-looking officers going undercover in high schools.
