2011 MTV Video Music Awards scores record ratings - What did you think?

08/29/2011 by Kristina Lopez

A tribute to Amy Winehouse, Britney Spears' big honor, Beyonce's baby bump, performances by Lady Gaga, Adele, Kayne West and Jay -Z made the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards an event to watch and that is just what audiences did.

This year's award ceremony drew in a record of 12.4 million viewers, making it the most-watched telecast in the history of the network, according to the Associated Press. The audience was up 9 percent from last year's ceremony where Lady Gaga donned her infamous meat dress. This year the singer dressed up as her male alter-ego Jo Calderone and stayed in character throughout the entire night.

Adele and Katy Perry both walked away with three Moonmen each when the night was over.

"Now this is the time when you wanna interrupt me Kanye," Perry joked, referring to the rapper's infamous interruption of Taylor Swift's acceptance speech two years ago when she received an award for "E.T.," her collaboration with Kanye West. West laughed and simply thanked "Katy Perry for being so brave for letting me on her record."

Perry's husband, Russell Brand, was on hand for a tribute to the late Amy Winehouse that included Tony Bennett and Bruno Mars.
